Steam is a digital distribution platform created by Valve Corporation. It offers digital rights management (DRM), multiplayer gaming, social networking services, and even video stream function. Steam provides its users with installation and automatic updates of games on multiple computers, as well as various community features. Said features include: friends lists, groups, cloud saving, and in-game voice and chat. Though initially developed for use on Microsoft Windows, versions for OS X and Linux were later released. Mobile apps (with the main software) were released for iOS, Android, and even Windows Phone. Steam is currently the largest digital distribution platform for PC gamers with almost 75% of the market space. It has over 130 million registered accounts (with over 13 million concurrent users). The success of the Steam platform has led to the development of Steam Machine micro-console, as well as SteamOS. Steam’s user-friendly design and frequent sales, only increase its popularity among PC gamersXCOM is a reboot of the original X-Com, created by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games. It’s a sci-fi video game franchise featuring an elite international organization tasked with countering alien invasion of Earth. The series began in 1994 with the strategy video game UFO: Enemy Unknown. The original franchise (developed by MicroProse) included six published games and two novelizations. The series achieved a sizable cult following and has influenced many other video games; including the creation of a number of clones, spiritual successors, and unofficial remakes. The XCOM series began in 2012 with the strategy video game XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It was a critical and commercial success, with immediately spawn an expansion, called Enemy Within, as well as a prequel, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. It was a huge hit and quickly spun into the other media. All games in the series (BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite) are set in various dystopian cities/communities and the games’ protagonist has to fight against all odds to survive. BioShock includes elements of aforementioned FPS, survival horrors, and even role-playing games, giving the player different approaches in engaging enemies and various obstacles. The BioShock games were often praised for their disturbing, morality-based storylines, immersive environments, and unique settings, and are all considered to be some of the greatest video games of all time.
